A food runner, also known as a server assistant, works in the restaurant to help improve the customers dining experience. They act as a liaison between the front of house and back of house staff, and perform a range of tasks including:
- Delivering food: Food runners pick up food from the kitchen and deliver it to customers' tables
- Assisting with orders: Food runners help guests with their orders
- Taking feedback: Food runners take feedback from customers
- Setting up tables: Food runners set and clear tables, and fetch and place tableware, utensils, and napkins
- Ensuring safety: Food runners ensure food is served in accordance with safety standards, such as proper temperature
- Checking in with customers: Food runners check in with customers and take additional orders or refill water, as needed
